Dog drank lake water, now has soft stool & drinks more. Is he sick?

Question

I took my dog to the lake yesterday and it was his first time so he was curious in tasting the water, he was discouraged each time. Today his bowel movements have been solid in the beginning and then soft at the end and he seems to be drinking more. Should I be worried? Could he have got something from drinking the water? Pet's info: Dog | Boxer | Male | neutered | 8 months and 8 days old | 60 lbs

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question. It could be there was something in the water that has upset Bentley’s stomach, leading to the softer stools and drinking more water. I’d keep an eye on him for now. If he develops diarrhea, starts vomiting, becomes lethargic, and/or stops eating, I would have him seen by a vet. I hope this helps!
