Can my cat catch diseases from my guinea pig, and vice versa?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Russian Blue | Female | spayed | 7 years and 11 months old | 12 lbs

I have a cat and I got a couple Guinea pigs a few months ago. My cat actually loves rodents, she used to be best friends with a rabbit I had in the past so it's not a concern that shell be aggressive. My main concern is Can Guinea pigs get cats sick and vice versa? I dont want them too close if they can make eachother ill

Thanks for reaching out about your pets. Different species of animals commonly carry bacteria that can be harmful to other species, but most commonly transmitted by bites or claws. It is not recommended that predator and prey species co-habitate. Just be careful. Good luck.
