Dog's skin cut during grooming. Is a vet visit necessary if it stopped bleeding?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 2 years and 7 months old | 12 lbs

Dog’s skin was cut when getting a hair cut (we can see the skin). It bled a little bit but has stopped. We’ve washed and cleaned the area and applied gentle pressure. She’s calm and acting like herself. Do we need to see a vet?

No, just keep an eye on it for now. To keep Winnie from licking at it, you can put an Ecollar on him. You can get one at a pet store or make one at home. Keep the wound clean and dry, and monitor it for signs of infection. If you see redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, or pus, then it is infected and she will need to see the vet for antibiotics to treat it. I hope this helps.
