My 2-week-old puppy ate a plastic wrapper. Do I need to worry?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | unneutered | 5 lbs

My 2 weeks old German Shepherd swallowed a plastic ice-cream wrapper that was about 1.5cm wide and 1.5cm long. It's only been 15 minutes he swallowed it, no signs of throwing up or pooping yet and he is still very active. Do I need to worry?

I'm really surprised a two week old dog ingested a wrapper - usually they are still only eating milk until 3-4 weeks of age. It sounds like the wrapper was relatively small, and at 5 pounds I would think that he is large enough for this to pass as long as he is also eating solid foods. If he has not been eating solid foods I'd recommend seeing your veterinarian for an exam to make sure everything is okay.
