My dog is peeing in spurts. Should I worry about his bladder?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 1 year and 1 month old | 26 lbs

my dog is peeing in spurts; he squats to pee and is able to quickly empty his bladder, but the stream starts out fine and ends with it in rhythmic spurts. it seems like he’s contracting his muscles. should i be worried?

This is worth getting checked by your vet as it can be an early indicator for a problem with his bladder or urinary tract. It is good that seems to be emptying his bladder, but this urine flow may change over time and get worse, getting it checked now is the best bet to get ahead of any problem he may be developing.
