My old dog's wart scab won't heal. Should I be worried?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Bichon Frise | Male | unneutered | 12 lbs

the top of my old dog's wart got nicked off. It now has a large scab that has been there for over a month. My vet who has seen the wart said to leave the scab alone, but I am concerned that it has lasted so long. He is not scratching it. I can see under the loose end that the wart has not grown. What is your opinion?

Hello. If things are pretty static it is best just to leave the scab alone. Chances are at some point it will fall off. Most likely another scab will form & the process will repeat itself. The scab is somewhat protective, so I agree with your vet & leave the scab alone. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
