My old guinea pig has bumps behind her ears. How can I help her?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Guinea Pig | Female

Charlie has bumps behind her ears. I'm worried its cysts, but my dad doesn't want to spend the cost of the vet. I know it is very I'll-advised to remove it without vet permission, so I'm wondering if there is a way to ease her pain. She is very old and and we've had her almost 4 years (on top of the previous owner's time with her) and I'd like to give her a good life to remember.

Thanks for reaching out about Charlie and including photos. By the pictures, it could be an infection or abscess. You should not remove it at home and allow Charlie's immune system to combat. Cleaning with warm soapy water might help a little. Good luck.
