Why are my guppies hiding and my shrimp dying in the tank?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Fish | Tropical Fish

I have a 48L tank with 5 platies, 5 guppies and two wood shrimp, one of my platies has had 4babies which are doing fine however for the past 3 days all of my guppies have been huddling in either a line or group and sitting at the bottom of my tank doing nothing unless I go near the tank, they are eating normal and do the same day and night, and today one of my wood shrimp shed his skin, turned red and died, is this all connected and is there a reason for this?

Thanks for reaching out and including photos. A disease is unlikely to affect the shrimp and your fish. Check and correct water quality, as these abnormalities can affect all species. The guppies might be in hiding due to stress or over competition from the platys, as they can be territorial. Good luck.
