Is it normal for my dog to lose bladder control after stone surgery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My dog just had bladder stones removed last Monday and was given a catheter. He has not been able to control his bladder since the surgery. We will take him out to go to the bathroom and bring him in and he will pee on the bed 5 minutes later. Is this common after this kind of surgery?

This could be quite common as urinary tract is still inflamed. Sometimes it takes up to two weeks for the bladder function to recover completely.
