Is puppy vomiting a side effect of amoxicillin for ear infection?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Papillon | Female | 8 months and 26 days old | 2.3 lbs

Is my Puppy vomiting just a reaction to amoxicillin? She was diagnosed 5 days ago with an ear infection, given antibiotic shot and on 2x day amoxicillin + ear drops. Today for the 1st time she vomited see photo. Phoned our vet they advised it could be a delayed reaction to the meds to discontinue them until she is seen Monday for her spay. She has vomited 3x in an hour.

There is a chance that this is related to the medication and so should stop within about 12 hours of stopping the medication. If your puppy is still vomiting after that then I would recommend taking her in to be examined and given medication to stop the vomiting. I would also recommend withholding food from her for about 12-24 hours and see if that helps the vomiting stop. I hope this helps. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Best of luck.
