My old dog pees inside, drinks lots. Can she still be spayed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund | Female | unspayed | 25 lbs

My dachshund is about 10-11 years old she has begun to pee all over the house., even after just coming in from outside. She does seem to be requiring more water. Also, she has never had puppies,is she too old to be fixed?

Excessive drinking could be a sign of infection, such as a uterine infection since she is intact, also could be a sign of diabetes, there are a number of conditions that induce thirst. I strongly recommend getting her in to see the vet as soon as possible for an exam. If it is a uterine infection and she is in otherwise good health, getting her spayed at this age shouldn't be a problem.
