Is my cat's behavior change due to lymphoma or Leukeran side effects?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 11 years and 9 months old | 11.5 lbs

Trixie was just diagnosed with small cell lymphoma and just had her second Leukeran 3 days ago (one every 2 wks). She also takes a prednisolone every 24hrs. I’m noticing a difference in behavior with this second Leukeran-hiding, wanting to be alone, picky appetite. She’s also on, mirtazapine every 48hrs cerenia & gabapentin b/c of a torn ACL. Is the Leukeran making her feel bad causing this behavior or is it the lymphoma and the 2 doses of Leukeran have not had time to take effect yet?Thank you

If these symptoms are new then they could be related to the leukeran. If they are symptoms you were seeing prior to treatment then they could also be disease related. It is also possible as well that there is another cause such as pancreatitis as these cata are at increased risk for secondary health issues. Definitely let your oncologist know what you are seeing. He or she may want to make some suggestions/medication modifications. There are some cats that ultimately do not tolerate leukeran but this is uncommon. I hope this helps and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!
