Why is my dog licking an open sore on her leg? What can I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Female | spayed | 9 years and 2 months old | 65 lbs

What could cause this sore on my dog’s leg? It started out white and now has turned into what appears to be an open sore. She has been licking at the area frequently.

Poor Jada! It could be she injured herself causing the sore. It's not good that she keeps licking it, so I would put an Ecollar on her to stop that. I can put a link below on how to make one at home. Also have her seen by a vet to have it treated. I hope this helps! http://dogsaholic.com/care/homemade-dog-cone.html
