Should I give my fast-growing puppy a higher flea/tick treatment dose?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 3 months and 26 days old | 8 lbs

Hello! My puppy is 4 months old and weighs 22 lbs. I'm going to purchase his flea and tick treatment. The treatment comes in different packets. The packet for my dog is from 10.1-24. He is growing fast and they only sale the treatment in packages of 3, 6 and 12. My question is if I can give my puppy the treatment for the 24.1-60 because in 1 or 2 weeks he would be 24lbs.

Hi there and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is a common question and issue with preventatives in growing puppies. Often times veterinarians may opt for the higher weight range in these preventative products when the weight is borderline between two dosages or when rapid weight gain is expected within the next 30 days. You definitely want to ask Milo's prescribing veterinarian what they think is best for Milo and if going up a weight range would be OK.
