My dog won't eat kibble. Can I feed him healthy homemade meals?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 700 lbs

Thank you so much for your answer Dr.Elizabeth but what I really wanted to know that I have noticed that sometimes Jerry does not want to eat his regular food, and if I feed him something else like home made chicken or boiled egg with rice he likes to have. So can I feed him whatever he likes or shall I always go with packet food?

It is best to give pets a balanced diet, and it does not matter the source. You can go with homecooked food, as long as it is balanced and vet approved. Therefore I would recommend using resources like dog cook books or the following websites to learn how to do this properly, so that you are not making food that is deficient in vital vitamins and minerals that he needs. balanceit.com petdiets.com You can also look on Amazon.com for recipe books for dogs. The boiled chicken, egg and rice isn't going to be good long term, because pet need vegetables in their diet. I hope this helps answer your question! Best wishes and take care of Jerry moving forward.
