My cat is peeing on soft surfaces. Is it safe to wait for the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 1 year and 7 months old | 12 lbs

My 2yr old cat is only using soft surfaces to go instead of the box since Monday. He's playing and eating and drinking as usual. In case of a possible infection, I've supplemented him with a cranberry/lysine lickable today to be used daily. Clinic available Sunday to have exam, but am I worsening by waiting or can he improve symptoms by the supplement until then? He has gone once each day(pee/poop) since Monday.

As long as Jax doesn’t seem to be straining to urinate and there is no blood in his urine I think it is probably okay to wait until Sunday. If he is only passing small drops of urine, if he seems painful, or if he begins vomiting I’d recommend seeing your vet sooner.
