My budgie's nose changed color. How do I tell its gender?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Parakeet | Male

I have two budgies and I dont know what their gender is. Its been about a year since I got them and nither has layed eggs. At first one of them had a pink nose which I thought meant it was female but now its light blue, what does all of this mean? I need a bit more knowledge on budgies before I can determine my next course of action, if you have reccomendations or tips please write back. Thank you!

Hello and thank you for reaching out to PetCoach! Your budgie who's cere was pink and is now light blue is female. Males usually have a lavender to dark blue cere. We have an excellent webpage devoted to information about budgies; I've put the link below: https://www.petcoach.co/article/budgies-melopsittacus-undulates-species-profile-american-an/ I hope this is helpful! Let us know if you have any other questions!
