My cat has yellow teeth. Is this normal, or is it plaque buildup?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 2 years old | 12 lbs

Hello, I would like to ask if it is normal if a cat have yellow teeth? I am brushing my cat's teeth often, but her teeth don't seem so white anymore. The gums are not red and there isn't tartar. Could it be plaque build up and does it need to be checked up on? Kind regards, Emma

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Daisy's teeth actually look amazingly clean, so good job brushing them! It is not unusual for cat's teeth to have a yellow tone to them. They don't have a significant amount of tartar build up (very dark yellow to brown/grey in color); they look very clean. Keep up the good work!
