My dog with heart disease struggles to breathe. Is he dying now?

Pet's info: Dog | Boston Terrier | Male | unneutered | 18 lbs

my nine year old boston terrier is on four medications for heart disease (heart Murmer)he is walking and then standing still, unable to lie down. he has rapid shallow breathing and occasionally coughs then yacks. is he dying nw? Is there anything i can do to comfort him?

Rapid shallow breathing is a sign of distress, likely from fluid building up in his lungs. A chest radiograph can confirm this. If he is not alread on daily furosemide/lasix as a diuretic, bloodwork to monitor renal values and lasix (a diuretic) may help if he appears to have pulmonary congestion/fluid buildup. If he is already on lasix and still having labored breathing and unable to lay down, then a consult with your vet re: humane endpoints for euthanasia would be advised. Good luck-
