Why is my guinea pig digging, in pain, and losing hair? What's wrong?

I have a guinny pig just bought and he won't stop digging. And I know it is painful bc he hollars. Do u know why that could be? Even he's hair is coming out. And no vet near me will see exotic animals. Pet's info: Exotic | Unknown - Exotic | Male | unneutered | 4 lbs

Maybe a local veterinarian could consult with an exotics veterinarian over the phone. A skin scrape to diagnose mites is the same as for a cat/dog, but a veterinary examination is needed to perform any diagnostics or prescribe any medication. Good luck.
