I am sorry to hear about the passing of Shadow. Losing a pet is always difficult and full of sadness. Parvovirus will be fatal to about 25% of dogs it infects that receive treatment (so more fatal to those who do not receive treatment). It is shed in the stool of dogs who survive the infection and will live in the soil for about a year but this does vary based upon location. Unfortunately, your yard is now infected with the parvovirus and will be for a while (you may check with your local veterinarian for a specific time frame). In general, you should not get another dog who is not fully vaccinated against parvovirus due to the risk of infection. Keep in mind that vaccines take 7-10 days to take full effect after they are given and you need to make sure that the appropriate amount of booster vaccines has been given prior to coming into the home. No unvaccinated dogs should come into your location either. I hope this information is helpful. My condolences.
