Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Korat | Male | neutered | 14 years and 3 months old | 9.6 lbs

Greetings! What does my 15 y/o cat's blood works say about his health? His hyperthyroid is under control and he is also on a low dose of prednisolone. There is muscle atrophy in his hind legs. Eating drinking normally. Thank you!

Slightly elevated BUN can indicate very early renal disease or dehydration. SDMA is a new lab value and indicates renal disease, though it is not consistently able to diagnose renal disease. I would recommend that you talk to your vet about concerns for the kidneys and to discuss if you need to change the diet or start fluid therapy. Decreased muscle mass in the back legs is common in older pets. It is from decreased use of the limbs. Encourage Beau to get gentle exercise through play so that he can maintain muscle mass.
