My dog eats fast, is hyper, and throws up. Should I change her food?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Female | unspayed | 1 year old

My dog drinks and eats very fast and seems to stay very hyper/active and sometimes she throws up but it's watery spit with sometimes undigested food in it. She's 1 year old and it doesn't happen all the time but do you think I should change her food?

Dutchess could vomit due to many conditions including dietary intolerance, bacterial over growth, parasites (including worms and giardia) or even something more sinister. If she has not been checked for worms or giardia within the last 2 months, I recommend to have this done by the veterinarian. A good diet in general is Royal Canin. It is low residue and highly digestible. They do make a sensitive stomach formula which may help. If it does not, you may consider a food trial with a hydrolyzed protein diet. You may also consider having Dutchess spayed. This will help to calm her down somewhat but it will not alter her bouncy personality. These results can be variable but spaying dogs has significant health benefits long terms. Please feel free to post any additional questions!
