Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It sounds like Lassie may have gotten very hot outside and needs to pant to cool off. Dogs cannot sweat to release heat, so they have to pant to breathe off heat. As long as Lassie can settle down and act normally, eat, drink, etc, he should be OK. I hope this is helpful!

Hello. I see you are in a very warm area of the world, so it is possible that Lassie, with his heavy coat, is still warm. But, if it is at all possible that he did get overheated & suffered a bit of heat stroke, he may need medical attention. Can you obtain a rectal temperature. Although it may be in the normal range now ( 101.5-103.5 F ), anything over 103.5 F might indicate a respiratory infection. We do not want to take much of a watch & wait attitude, as any breathing concerns can become more serious, especially if there is truly an underlying medical cause. If you are truly concerned, please see your veterinarian. It is always better to be safe than sorry. I hope Lassie is doing well soon & thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
