How can I help my cat's eye wound heal better after vet treatment?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 5 lbs

My cat Zil came in late last Monday April 22nd with her eye bleeding and red, the next day it was crusted shut and swollen. The vet gave us medicine to reduce the swelling but it started to smell really bad, so we took her back and they cut out that hole because the flesh was rotting. Shes on antibiotics and anti inflammatory medicine, and we are cleaning it but it's still looking really rough, and we cant afford to take her back. Is there anything we should can do to help the healing process?

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I recommend calling Zildjan’s veterinarian if the wound is not healing well. Be sure you are only cleaning as directed by her veterinarian. Some antiseptics or cleaners can inhibit healing. Do not use hydrogen peroxide to clean wounds daily.
