My rabbit is losing fur around its eye. What could be the cause?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Rabbit | Male | neutered | 2 years and 7 months old

Hi my rabbit is currently losing fur around his eye and I am unsure of what may be causing the fur loss, he is nearly 3years and is neutered. Is this something I should be worried about, he is eating and going to toilet just seems a little irritated. Thankyou

Hi, and thanks for your question. That is likely to be due to a mild to moderate conjunctivitis and eyelid inflammation, probably secondary to an infection. A check up would be needed as appropriate treatment would include antibiotics and anti-inflammatory eye drops. Corneal injuries must be ruled out as well.
