Is a red piece sticking out of my dog's neuter wound normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Poodle | Male | neutered | 7 months and 24 days old | 14.5 lbs

Hello! My 7.5 month old mini poodle got nutured yesterday. Today he’s been noticibly better. I took a look at his wound and saw a small red piece sticking out. I circled it in the picture for reference. The area isn’t oozing blood or discharge, I was just curious to know if this is normal?

Yes, this is absolutely normal. The wound looks very good for being just done 2 days ago. Continue to make sure that he does not lick the area, as times go by the wound dries up and itchiness increases and he could still cause some trauma to it. Hope all continues to go well, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach !
