My dog has an enlarged gallbladder and won't eat. What do I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 1 year and 4 months old | 20.2 lbs

Yesterday my dog threw up 3 times, I took her to the vet they did an X-ray and found her gualbladder is enlarged. The vet said it may be filled with slug or gualstones she was unsure. My dog has not eaten anything since about 7:30 pm Friday. My vet is not in today what should I do. I have also tried giving her a bland diet with no avail.

Gallbladder sludge should be ideally confirmed by an ultrasound (x rays cannot reliably assess that). Another check up is absolutely needed as prolonged inappetence is concerned. Nutritional support may be needed. Please take Buttercup to the nearest available veterinary clinic in your area.
