Pet's info: Small Animal | Hamster | Male
Hamster is losing hair and has red skin all along his belly. One ear look a little dry or crust too. He is 5 months old, still very active and eats normally (although is he looks s little smaller than when we first got him). He seems to drink a lot too. It started with his fur looking wet at first then the red and hair loss on his underside came. Pet store said dwarf hamster when we got him and his brother. They live together and the other one appears totally normal.

Thanks for reaching out about Snowball and including photos, although they are out of focus and difficult to view. Hair loss and redness on the skin might be indicative of an allergic dermatitis. Any contact with new bedding, fabrics or detergents? Mites or moist dermatitis are also possible. Try removing wood chips, fabrics and replace with paper products like Carefresh. If the condition worsens, a veterinary visit is recommended. Good luck.

Thanks for reaching out about Bubbles and including a photo. Flakey dermatitis in hamsters can be due to skin parasites, bacterial infections, endocrine or metabolic disorders and other concerns. A veterinary visit is recommended to assess and provide a diagnostic/treatment plan. A deep skin scrape and microscopic examination is a good start. Good luck.
