Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | unspayed | 7 months and 1 day old | 12 lbs
My dog just went into heat and she is very very lazy. All she wants to do all day long is sleep. Is it normal for a female in heat to be so tired? And what can I do to prevent her from getting tied together with a male? We have two males in our community and they run around outside but they’re both neutered. I am thinking of breeding her when she’s old enough. How long is it before she goes into heat and is fertile? How many days after she starts bleeding?

No, being very lethargic isn't normal for a dog in heat so I'd have Bailey checked out by a vet to be safe. Do not allow her outside alone, and do not take her into public places while she is in heat. She is technically fertile now if she is in heat, but the best time to breed a dog is between days 9-14 of their heat. A dog's heat will last three to four weeks. I would not breed her until at least her second heat. I hope this helps!
