Can a wet towel on a heater cause fire or increase room humidity?

Question

I want to increase humidity in my room and i saw online i can put a wet towel on the heating source. I tought i could put it when i go to sleep since it will be the easiest method. The other night i did it and after like an hour i touched the towel and it was hot. I wanted to ask can the towel catch fire on the furnace, even if it is wet? And does that method with the wet towel even work? Pet's info: Bird | Cockatiel | Male | 8 months and 12 days old

Thanks for reaching out about Keke. This is a bad idea as once the towel dried it can catch fire. Cockatiels are normally from arid areas and don't require high humidity. If using it as a treatment, 10-15 minute periods in the steamy shower could help. Good luck.
