Dog had fox tail removed. What aftercare for red, swollen ear?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 10 months and 26 days old | 16 lbs

My sweet girl Brownie a 10 month old 20lb mixed terrier just had a 2 inch fox tail removed from her ear yesterday. It was at the base of ear Not yet in the ear canal. She was sedated and it was removed no problems. The vet did say her ear on the inside was red and swollen. She wasn't sent home with any meds. Should I be flushing her ear or doing something as far as aftercare?

I recommend to call the veterinarian and doublecheck. Given the fact that they were able to visually examine the ear canal, they are the best person to advise if something else needs to be done. Sometimes it is best not to cause any further trauma and just let things heal naturally. It never hurts to ask. Please feel free to post any additional questions.
