My cockatiel is suddenly screaming. Is he in pain or stressed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Cockatiel | Male | unneutered | 8 months and 19 days old | 65 lbs

Yesterday Rue was fine, but an hour ago when I went to see him, he was yelling and didn’t want me to hold him, now he’s on my shoulder and he’ll suddenly yell, is it be he’s molting and it hurts or could there be other reasons (no broken blood feathers, no cuts, no bone seems to be broken)

Thanks for reaching out about Rue Pippins. Pain could be a concern but also stress or fear. Something might have scared him and might take some time to recovery. Monitor appetite and water consumption and seek a veterinary visit if needed. Good luck.
