What's this bleeding, crusty spot on my dog's back? Is it a tick bite?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pug | Male | neutered | 10 years and 3 months old | 25 lbs

What is this on my dog’s back? It had a yellowish infection kind of crust over it that came off and bled a little. The blood you see in the pic is sort of on the inside of the skin. Can this be a tick bite reaction, I’ve found many on him of late.

That almost looks like it is some sort of infected wound or possibly a ruptured cyst. Certain types of flies will also lay their eggs on the skin and the larva will migrate into the skin. I recommend to have Coco examined by his veterinarian to figure out what this is. Please feel free to post any additional questions.
