My large puppy just ate a sock. Should I give him oil to pass it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Bullmastiff | Male | neutered | 10 months and 4 days old | 125 lbs

My large Mastiff puppy (10 moths 125 pounds) just ate/swallowed a small sock of mine. I saw him do it while I was trying to get it away. Is there any oil I can give him to help this. Just happened and will have the vet on notice am.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! He may be able to pass it but in reality, it is possible that it may cause a gastrointestinal obstruction. I recommend you watch him closely for signs of a gastrointestinal obstruction such as vomiting, inappetence, nausea and/or abdominal pain and have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment if observed. Also, keep an eye on his stools to check to see if he passes the sock. Best of luck! Hopefully this is nothing!
