Why does my dog arch his back and cry out in pain when I touch him?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Male | unneutered | 5 years old | 6.5 lbs

My dog is arching his back and screeches a little if jostled or touched wrong. It started yesterday afternoon, but in the evening we took him for a walk and he acted fine for a little while. What might be wrong?

Cinnamon needs to see the veterinarian. He's obviously in pain when he exhibits that screeching behavior. It's possible he has a compressed disc, a pinched nerve or a muscular injury. The doctor will need a physical exam and possibly radiographs to examine the spine. They can also provided pain relief and any other needed medications. I hope Cinnamon starts feeling better quickly!
