Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | unspayed | 12 days old

why am I able to hold Lucy and her twin calico at one week old, while the mother Lulu doesn't allow me to hold the others kittens, the others kittens go so far as to hiss at me. why would I be allowed to touch these 2 twin calicos and not the rest of lulu's kittens?

It's hard to know why Lulu won't let you hold the other kittens. If only Lulu could talk! It's impossible to know if she is more attached to the other kittens or if it's related to some sort of stress. Try not to cause stress on Lulu. Also, I'm confused who the other kittens are because 1 week old kittens shouldn't hiss. I also recommend to have Lulu spayed unless she is a breeding cat. Having a cat spayed has many health and behavioral benefits. Additionally, 1 female cat can have almost 30 kittens in a year if not kept indoors and away from male cats. That's a lot of kittens/cats to care for. As the population increases, disease outbreaks will become more likely. Best to avoid those. I hope this helps!
