My ferret's neck is swollen and she's tired. Is it a vet emergency?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Ferret | Female | spayed | 4 months and 24 days old | 1.5 lbs

I have a 4 month old female ferret. She has never had any medical problems or injuries. She has not been as energetic and playful the last 2 days, and has been sleeping alot during the day,but is eating and drinking normal. Tonight i noticed her neck is swollen on both sides, but more on the right. It feels like very enlarged lymph nodes, but she displays no signs of pain when i touched it. Is this a asap vet situation.

Thanks for reaching out about Clover and including photos. It does appear as if the neck is swollen but also appears the abdomen is large also. Juvenile lymphoma should be considered and is not painful to the touch unless very large or impinging organs. A veterinary visit is recommended, sooner than later but don't think an emergency for tonight. Juvenile lymphoma will require fairly intensive treatment but should be diagnosed and started soon. Infections can also cause enlargement of lymph nodes but are usually localized. Good luck.
