My dog is on Prednisolone and is vomiting blood. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 4 years and 3 months old | 12.5 lbs

Rocky has degenerative joint disease in his spine and neck. He was prescribed Prednisolone. He seemed to be doing better, but now is very withdrawn, dripping water from his eyes, and vomiting (there might have been some blood). He's been treated for 7 days, and all other tests etc are coming up clear. What can I do until he gets to his vet?

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I recommend calling Rocky’s vet ASAP as he may be having side effect to the prednisone. However depending on the dose he has been on it can be harmful to stop it cold turkey so you need to discuss any medication changes with his veterinarian
