Why does my new kitten have mucky eye discharge but no other symptoms?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Red Point Siamese | Male | neutered | 3 months and 3 days old | 10 lbs

my kitten was adopted almost a month ago, healthy as can be, today his left eye has started to get mucky, in the inner corner of his eye i’ve had to wipe white, cream mucus away more than several times, no other flu symptoms still acting and eating and drinking normally, what could be wrong?

Hello. This could be the beginning of a little upper respiratory infection. Since most of these are viruses, usually with time they go away ( usually 10-14 days ). As long as Spice continues to eat & act normal, just keep the eye clean of the mucous with a little warm water. If this progresses to a little sneezing, again, as long as he is acting/eating fine, there is no need for treatment. Loss of appetite, lethargy, or a thick nasal discharge is an indication that Spice needs to see a veterinarian. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
