Why does my dog have brown discharge 3 weeks after having puppies?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | unspayed | 10 lbs

My dog is not in heat but she did give berth to puppies 3 weeks ago she acts normal she eats drinks solid non bloody poop normal urination not panting tits are not swollen or hot puppies are very healthy however she has brown mucus discharge from her vaginal area what could be causing that

Hello. This is a normal discharge called lochia. It is the remains of the uterine lining being expelled & this may continue for up to 12 weeks after a bitch gives birth. As long as it does worsen or contains signs of bright red blood, then this is a normal part of the whelping process. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
