My bird's back toe points forward. Why can't it walk or perch?

I'm trying to raise a wild mynah bird that fell out of the nest. I guess he was already an adolescent. He's doing quite well, but he has trouble walking. It seems the toe that's supposed to be pointing backwards is pointing forward. He's not using it to grab around a branch. Isn't that toe supposed to be pointed backwards at some point?

Thanks for reaching out about Pino and including a photo. The foot appears deformed. If there a local wildlife rescue group that can assist? This could be due to dietary deficiencies, improper husbandry or other causes. A veterinary visit is recommended if a rescue group can not be identified. Good luck.
