My dog's back legs are weak and he can't stand. What's wrong?

What's wrong with my dog? He can't stand. His to legs at the back is weak.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This may be due to a neurologic condition such as a herniated disc. I recommend that you have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check for this and treat him accordingly. Best of luck!

    Hello. Sudden onset of weakness in the hind legs could be an indication of a possible instability in the back, perhaps even the beginning of a herniating disc. At nine years of age, arthritis in the back is also a possibility. Have Diesel evaluated by your veterinarian as soon as possible. Until you can have him seen, try to rest him as best you can, & do not let him try to jump up & down on the couch.
