Why is my dog vomiting green and having diarrhea in her cage?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Canary Mastiff | Female | unspayed | 2 years and 1 month old | 60 lbs

My dog has been acting normal the only thing that’s not right is that she’s been having diarrhea in her cage, and she never goes in her cage. And last week I thought she was choking on a toy so I stuck my hand down her mouth and she puked. Nothing came up. This weekend at a friends she also puked and pooped in her cage and just now she pooped in her cage and so I was cleaning it cane down stairs to clear puke with green everywhere.

It sounds like your pup is having some sort of gastrointestinal distress. This could be from a virus, parasites, something she ate, or a metabolic issue. Since she has had several episodes of the vomiting and diarrhea over the past week I think I would be a good idea to have her checked out. She will likely just need some GI support, like nausea meds and fluids, until she recovers. I hope this helps. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Best of luck.

Is she eating once a day or twice a day? If it is once a day then split the meal into two different meals. I would also recommend trying to wean her off of the wet food. If the vomiting started after starting her on it, that may be the cause. I would then talk to your veterinarian about an antacid for her. If you do all of this and she is still vomiting or the vomiting starts to get worse then I recommend following up with your veterinarian for diagnostics.
