My Yorkie cries in pain when touched. Should I take him to the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Male | unneutered | 2 years and 2 months old | 4 lbs

My Yorkie (4lb) is crying and trying to bite me if I touch his chest area while picking him up, he’s moving slower than normal but still climbing up on the back of the couch to look out the window. Should I take him to the vet or wait a couple days? He started this last night about 9pm.

Ideally, I would take him on in. If he is painful enough that he's trying to bite you, getting him in sooner rather than later will get him some relief. If he is still eating and drinking, and he's able to walk comfortably, its reasonable to wait a few days and see if it gets better, and I understand holding off it that makes more sense in your situation, but if its not a financial strain or logistically really difficult, I would go ahead a take him in rather than waiting. Thanks for asking Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!
