My puppy has an overbite. What are the risks of tooth extraction?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Great Pyrenees | Male | unneutered | 15 lbs

a Great Pyrenees male 3 month puppy. One vet said he has severe overbite. Even with extraction in the future it would still be a problem. Anothet vet agreed he has big overbite issue, but after the two botton canine extraction (when it becomes necessary), the overbite won't bother him anymore as a health concern. Would the extraction be the one-off solution? Are there any risks? Any side effects, like behavior change, eating difficulties, health issues? what is the worst scenario? Thank you.

I honestly would try to wait and see on this one. There is a chance this won't pose any major concerns for Bear, especially if you are diligent with brushing his teeth and getting him regular dental cleanings. Even though the teeth can dig into the bottom jaw quite a bit, Bear may compensate for this himself and not cause any injuries here. I hope that this helps you in your decision making moving forward. Best wishes and take care.
