My dog has heart problems, fluid, and breathing issues. What can I do?

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Male | unneutered | 3 years and 6 months old | 4 lbs

Before his 1st birthday we found out he has heart problems he passed out 4-5 times a day he is on lasix 20mg 3xday and 1/2 of a 5mg enalapril a day and the fluid on him is so bad now hes swelled 2 times his size and hes having a hard time breathing so what else can I do for him to help him breath and get more fluid off him please help me to help him

Hello. Poor Rosco. Do you know what type of congenital heart defect he has? There are different types that respond to various treatments, procedures & surgeries. If you have not asked your regular veterinarian for a consult with a veterinary cardiologist, I encourage you to consider this. I do not believe Kentucky has a veterinary college at this time, but perhaps Auburn or Tuskegee are within your travel area. This would be the best way to insure you have done the best you can for him. I hope he is doing better soon & thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
