Is raw egg helping my puppy's foul-smelling poop after parvo exposure?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | 3 months and 5 days old

Just earlier my puppy died because of parvo, canine distemper, and a liver failure. She got isolated but we weren't sure of the early symptomps and she got the chance to be with the other dogs including another puppy. Most of my dogs have completed their vaccines and I am scared about the other puppy. He started pooping with a foul smell and a vet told us to use raw egg as a home remedy. Now, he's pooping yellow colored and pretty less fishy smelled poop. Is the egg helping him?

I am so sorry that your puppy passed and also that the other puppy was exposed. I am not sure what the raw egg is supposed to do here honestly. Eggs just have extra carbs and some protein. Parvovirus is a viral infection that is only treated with supportive care, which includes: fluid therapy, pain management, antibiotics and sometimes vitamin injections or anti-viral meds. If you suspect the new puppy has parvovirus with the same symptoms as the other puppy, then its best to take this pup in to get tested. Otherwise, i would continue to monitor this puppy and have his stool checked for just common intestinal parasites. He may just have worms if he is still otherwise eating well, no vomiting and has good energy. I hope that your pup Saiko gets well soon! Best wishes and take care.
