Puppy peeing blood, having accidents. Should I give cranberries?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 3 months and 9 days old | 16 lbs

Hello, my puppy just turned 3 months on the 14th of April. There has been a tiny bit of blood in her urine. She is pretty good with potty training but i have noticed that it is now something she can't really hold in and "go's" where ever she is. Does she have a UTI? If so, should i give her cranberries, cranberry juice or cranberry pills?

I recommend you have Cali seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible. Cali 's symptoms could also be due to a urinary tract infection, an infection of the external genitalia, crystals in the urine, stones in the urinary tract, or trauma to the area. Your vet will likely want to test some of Cali's urine to see if there is an infection and to begin treatment as needed. If you notice her straining to urinate/unable to produce urine, this is a medical emergency and she should be seen by a vet immediately. I don't recommend you give cranberries, cranberry juice, or cranberry pills without first consulting with your vet, as this can alter the pH of her urine, and a change in pH can sometimes lead to crystals or stones in the urine.

Poor girl. Blood in the urine in most cases does indicate that she has a raging UTI. Her poor bladder is likely so inflammed now that she is peeing frank blood. Other alternative causes are stones in the bladder (not as common in pets her age), or a coagulation problem (not as common either) I would highly recommend taking Llio in to your local vet as soon as you can get her an appt to get this taken care of. Cranberries don't cure UTI's in dogs or people for that matter. She will need a short course of antibiotics to get this cleared up. I hope that Lilo gets some resolve for her suspected UTI very soon. Best wishes and take care!
