My dog has a free-moving lump on her back. Should I be concerned?

Hi there, We’ve found a lump on pika’s back and not really sure what to think. It’s not connected to anything and moves freely and doesn’t seem to be growing exponentially but we don’t know if we should be concerned..thoughts?

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Pika. From the picture, and given her age, I would suspect this is a benign tumor or possibly a cyst. Any suspicious lumps should be examined by the vet. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of its cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. Once the cause of the lump is diagnosed, the vet can discuss treatment options if needed. I'd give her vet a call in the morning to make her an appointment. I hope this helps!
